Limoux Carnival is held on Saturdays and Sundays every year, between January and Easter, and daily during the week of Mardi Gras. This is a winter festival that preserves the Occitan language tradition (an ancient regional French dialect which was common in the sixteenth century) with songs and plays performed in the Occitan language. It is a traditional fiesta of the area and the name of the carnival - Fécos - is derived from a typical dance of the 1500s.

During the carnival weekends, three parades are held every day.  A mass of marchers in colourful costumes and masks, wind instrument bands, dancers and jugglers all participate. Generally there are two parades on Saturdays and one on Sunday, but it is recommended to confirm times and places in advance via the website.
