Things to do!

 

On the doorstep:  Cycling, river fishing, kayak, swim or hike along the river and gorges of the Aude (Pierre-Lys, Galamus and St. Georges...).

 

Or inquire about one of the many 'Hosting Experiences' we offer here at La Plantation, including:

Music lessons (Singing, Music, Piano and Guitar), Language lessons (French, Italian, Spanish, Russian and English) and Art/Craft workshops - Coming soon - Day trips aboard our very own boat on the Canal du Midi (Entertainment and Picnic included).

 

Visit Cathar Castles (Peyrepertuse, Puilaurens, Montségur...) and the villages and towns of Espéraza, Alet-Les-bains, Quillan and Limoux (20 mins).

 

Do watersports on the lakes of Quillan (10mins), Puivert (30mins), Montbel (50 mins) and scuba/snorkling at Banyuls sur Mer (1hr30).


Thermal Spas:  Alet les Bains (15mins) - small spa, swimming pool and famous bottled mineral water. Rennes les Bain (30 mins) - extensive thermal spa offering cures.

Skiing:  We are less than an hour from the Pyrenees so there are a lot of opportunities for skiiing in the various ski stations in the region.  The closest is aprox, 35 minutes from the La Plantation at Ski Camurac https://www.ski-camurac.com/ - Les Angles https://www.lesangles.com/fr is just a little further on at about 40 minutes, but if you wish to explore further into the Pyrenees we can provide more information, or just 'Google' Ski Stations near Quillan.


Further afield:  Explore the fascinating Cité Médiéval de Carcassonne (1hr), Cathar Country, the Canal du midi - for boating and cycling, the Abbey and monastery at Lagrasse (1hr30). 

 

Or visit The Pieux-Minervois dolmen which is undoubtedly the most beautiful megalithic monument in the Aude (1hr30), located on a hillside named Moural de la Fados (Coteau des Fées), it is called the Dolmen of the Fairies (Dolmen of Fados).

The dolmen are 24 meters long and more than 5,000 years old. Human bones have been found, as well as pottery remains and some carved stone accessories.


Beaches :  1hr 30 Gruissan (picturesque citadel plus a lovely marina), Leucate (surfing), Narbonne Plage (1hr30)


Carnivals and Festivals: Carnival of Limoux   (Saturdays, Jan-March), Carcassonne festival (July), Quillan Festival (July and August - Celtic, Flamenco and Jazz), plus many others in the towns and villages throughout the region.


Other regional activities include:  Wine tasting along the Route des Vins (corbières, maury...), river fishing, hiking, mountain biking, paragliding and horse riding. Or just enjoy the café culture of the neighbouring towns, sample the nightlife and shop in the local markets!
